Exciting news; revival of a road race in the Comox Valley in 2026!

Date will be Saturday, May 9, and it will be combined with a time trial. The course tba once we have approval confirmation. This will bring Comox Valley cycling back to the force it has been in the past with local road race, cyclocross, gravel and mtb events available to Vancouver Island, Canadian riders to enjoy right here.

Meet the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors that took their positions at the AGM held on October 7th. John van der Vliet resigned from his long term as president, a big thank you to John for his contributions in the past and for continuing to provide storage space for the club trailer at A/S Automotive Service and Mini Storage. Mike Buggie was nominated and agreed to take on the position, we look forward to his input, suggestions and recommendations as a former Ontario rider, club president there. Neil Dumville was nominated and agreed to the club Treasurer position, Shaun Cody will stay on as a Director at Large and Nigel Hutchinson as Race Director at Large will provide much needed support and direction to revive a Road Race in the Comox Valley. Barb Morris stays on, as Vice President.

New Addition

In 2026, the club will add mountain biking to the Cycling BC affiliation description of rides and riders who compose the CVCC. This is a both a reflection of the current membership and the past diversity of rider types who join to meet likeminded individuals; we have road riding, cyclocross, gravel, mountain bike and track riding folk within the Comox Valley and we aim to bring the folk together who do all of these things on two wheels. An umbrella club that can have racing, recreation enthusiasts of many ages in any of the cycling disciplines under a name that is inclusive of your two wheeled preference.

Meet the Board – questions were asked, answers given, know your fellow rider!

Mike Buggie, president;
The first bike I can remember was a red Super-cycle from crappy tire that I rode to school religiously, then a Nishiki MTB. (Mike has a background in Ontario mountain biking).

Favourite food Shawarma or any middle eastern food for that matter at Habibis or Korean fried chicken from Garlic & Pepper in Tin Town. (good to know!)

Favourite ride so far in the CV is up Forbidden plateau a couple of switchbacks then take the logging roads north to cross Wattaway creek then rip down Browns main to Duncan bay main back to town ..to Gladstones patio.

Neil Dumville, treasurer;
I grew up riding many different bikes as a kid and teenager, but my first bike in Vancouver came out of a dumpster. It was a 3 speed, fast, faster, fastest, CCM that I hand painted bronze with gold accents and named “Byzantium”. I replaced it a year later with a hybrid Cannondale that I bought with my first paycheck as a bike courier.

Favorite food is hand held, while hot crispy chicken burger is the definite front runner. With a shout out to Big Wheel Burgers in Courtenay.

There are many great rides in the CV, but my favourite road sections are on S Farnham Rd and out on Comox Lake Rd. The mix of pavement and nature is sublime. Gravel rides have unlocked tons of options too, the climb up Forbidden Plateau and more recently exploring the trails around Seal Bay rank high on my list.
So grateful to the folks at the CVCC, its been a blast getting out on group rides, looking forward to many more in the year ahead!
(Thanks Neil, great to have you!)

Barb Morris, vice president;
The first bike that I can remember had a marijuana leaf sticker on the front, that didn’t register to my 17-year-old self as I rode it around Tacoma while going to college. I didn’t get arrested. Years later I bought a Lejeune from National Team Member Verna Buhler, raced that one, it was a condition of purchase!

Favourite food, not much I don’t like but a good halibut fish and chips rates up there.

Favourite rides here in my adopted CV, coming up for 4 years in 2026, is any ride with club mates 🙂 On my own, One Spot and Wildwood cravel.
