Great Road Racing on our local Lazo Loop! What a great backdrop to see Matt Sherar race, winning Race the Valley 2026! He made 2nd place Logan Wiebe work for it and Alex Timmer rounded out the podium by outsprinting David Gerth at the line. Leah Fulton led the womens field, testing local rider Sarah Graves for the finish.
In the B race, William Rooke stayed ahead of Matthew Ishakawa who outsprinted his team mate Owen Chen, both of them 14 years old and members of the Triple Shot youth program.
Artur Podgornyi beat the field in the C race with a win over Boone Tricket while new to road racing CVCC member Tony Panell exceeded his expectations to finish 3rd. Jennifer Gerth, outstanding long time racer on the local, national and world scene won the C race using her race tactics to best Pearl Tricket, who finished ahead of local phenomenon Wanda Reddin, barely. Exiting races all! A big shout out to Shaqued Ben-Shoosjan who at 12 years old proved that age is not a barrier to race participation.
Mayor Nicole Minions had a few words to send the riders off with – we are very grateful to the residents in the Town of Comox and especially those around this scenic course for their encouragement of the riders.
We think it is one of the best courses that has it all, challenging terrain, scenery and the people who supported this event. A fabulous day for all.
